He has his own agenda, and it points straight at the throne. So you've got an empire of decadence, a coalition of nations trying to topple it, and a guy in the middle who might betray everyone. The political undercurrent gives it more substance than you'd expect from a single-episode OVA. If you've seen the original Kuroinu: Kedakaki Seijo wa Hakudaku ni Somaru, this follows a similar dark fantasy framework with the same studio pedigree. Fans of Himekishi Lilia or Mashou no Nie 3 will also recognize the tone immediately — corrupt power structures, morally compromised characters, and a world where nobody is clean. Studio Seven keeps the character designs detailed and the atmosphere appropriately grim. Going in knowing it's a mature, R-rated OVA rooted in a visual novel will set your expectations right.
