Synopsis
Self-described otaku Ao Suto will be the first to tell you he spends his school days talking anime and manga with friends, has zero romantic experience, and gets called 'Otaku-kun' by his cold, dismissive classmate Umi Tono rather than his actual name. Not exactly a promising setup for romance. But Ao has a goal: find a partner, start a family. And his school, somehow, has a nationally sanctioned club specifically for that: a child-making and pregnancy club, officially recognized and everything. He joins, expecting strangers. Instead, he finds Umi sitting right there across from him. This 2-episode OVA from Studio 1st, based on a light novel, leans into the humor of that awkward setup while letting the tension between two people who clearly don't know what to make of each other do most of the heavy lifting. The premise is deliberately absurd: a government-approved high school family-planning club, but the character dynamic between a guy who gets written off as a hopeless nerd and the girl who's been doing the writing off is where it actually gets interesting. If you've watched something like Boku no Kanojo ga Majime Sugiru Shojo Bitch na Ken and liked how it plays with social awkwardness and unexpected romantic tension, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of Yosuga no Sora who want something lighter in tone might also find it worth the short runtime. It's a quick watch with a specific audience in mind.

It is kind of bizarre that the government just sponsors a pregnancy club, and no one thinks that is a weird thing for a school to have.
That look on Umi's face when she walked through the door changed the whole mood of the selection process
My face was stuck in a stare when Ao saw who his partner was because that girl acted like she hated his guts
The way Umi calls him Otaku-kun and then shows up for a pregnancy club partner meeting is such a massive curveball
I can't believe Umi was the one waiting in that club room after how she treats Ao in class
Watching Tono drop the act the second they were alone in the club room was a great moment and the art style is really clean for a pilot
Umi Tono walking through the door as the partner candidate changed the whole energy of the episode because she had been so mean to him before, and it makes you wonder what her actual motivation is for picking the guy she was just bullying, but the production values are higher than usual and Tono looks very cute
I found the setup for the club way too unbelievable and the dialogue felt stiff when they were explaining the national rules for the pregnancy hunting
The premise is really out there and Ao is a bit of a generic lead but the designs for the girls are good and the colors are very bright
The animation during the scenes in the club room was surprisingly smooth and Tono looks great when she is not acting so cold to him
Tono going from calling him Otaku-kun in the hall to wanting to start a family with him in the club is such a massive shift and it kept me hooked
The concept is totally wild but seeing Tono walk into that room and change her attitude so fast was such a trip and the art looks good for this one
I really liked the gap between how Tono acts in class and how she behaves in the club room, and the character designs are actually quite nice
I did not expect Tono to be the one waiting for him in the club room and the way she looks at him now is way different than before
It feels a bit rushed and the whole school club setting is pretty weird even for this kind of show but the animation is decent enough
