Koushoku no Chuugi Kunoichi Botan

Barely finished with her training, apprentice kunoichi Botan has everything go sideways — her master gets captured, and the village chief looks at her, the least experienced ninja around, and says "you're up." That's the setup for this 2025 OVA adapted from a manga, and it leans hard into historical Japan with all the shadowy intrigue you'd expect from a story about female ninja operatives. The appeal here is watching someone genuinely underprepared get thrown into a mission way above her pay grade. Botan has to rely on whatever incomplete training she's picked up, figure things out on the fly, and deal with enemies who are far more seasoned than she is. There's a conspiracy layered underneath the rescue mission, so the story has more going on than just the surface-level action. Fair warning — this is a hentai OVA from Studio Blue Bread, so know what you're getting into. But if you've ever been curious about the kunoichi side of ninja stories, this one puts it front and center rather than as a side note. The historical village setting and the focus on loyalty and personal growth give it a bit more narrative backbone than you might expect from the genre. If you liked the ninja world-building in Basilisk: Kouga Ninpou Chou or the kunoichi-focused angle of Kunoichi Tsubaki no Mune no Uchi, this covers similar territory with a decidedly more adult approach.
