Synopsis
On Izu-Oshima, a small island south of Tokyo, Ai Yasumi is the kind of manga fan who probably knows more about her favorite artists than her own classmates. When she finds out that Hoshi no Rei, a manga creator who's been inactive for years; is showing up at COMITIA, she makes the trip to Tokyo to finally see them in person. What happens at the convention sets her on a path she never planned for: actually trying to make manga herself. Which, as it turns out, is a completely different thing from reading it. The series follows Ai as she fumbles through the gap between loving something and learning how to do it, surrounded by characters like her childhood friend Sachi, an art club prodigy named Kokoro, and a Japanese teacher, Rei Teshima, who doesn't sugarcoat anything. The island setting gives it a quieter, more grounded feel compared to most shows about creative work, but there's a real sense of distance between Ai's world and the Tokyo manga scene she's trying to break into. If you liked the creative passion in Bakuman or the "kids figuring out how to make art" energy of Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken, this covers similar ground but from the perspective of someone starting from basically zero. It's comedic and warm without being saccharine, and Shin-Ei Animation handling it feels like a good fit for that tone. A nice one to watch when you want something earnest about the messy early stages of chasing what you love.

So she never had a block at all. Too many ideas waiting to get out. That reframe of creative block as overflow not emptiness is exactly what I needed to hear this week and the fact that it came through that old notebook just made it land perfectly
800 ideas. EIGHT HUNDRED. Sickening seeing that notebook page after page after page. Young Nana gifting that notebook to big sis in the sushi place and then sensei erasing her list out of fear just made the whole thing hit harder
The fireworks reveal where she just held up the notebook and sensei saw it crammed full was the moment. I kept thinking about how sensei could never fill that same page and here's this girl who blew way past it without even trying
The pencil shading trick revealing the erased title got me good. That whole idea of sensei writing it herself then rubbing it out because of the pressure... the magma metaphor is still sitting with me
When sensei wiped those tears watching her students spitball ideas at that tree root spot I felt that. Her whole journey from trying to kick her own door down with 'draw this then die' energy to just wanting her kids to enjoy it is so good
The fireworks scene when Teshima opened that notebook and saw damn near a thousand ideas staring back? That's the whole show in one frame. She spent the whole episode as the grounded one and then had to watch her student outrun her old dream in a day
I'm surprise by the amount of manga that was showcased in this anime itself. Really reflected the love and impact manga did for a lot of people. I think this is very relatable in a sense that there is that one artist one manga that you would go to insane length for. This hits very close to home, the visual is nice, the location showcased is also one big thing that i really like similar to yuru camp and bocchi. Can't wait to see more!

Time for Comiket is here and their have a great experience selling their manga for the first time, I can feel the Joy of their first manga their sold. Still Yasumi not ready for Hana critism towards her manga that make from brainstorming last night, but happy to see their mentor & friends buy her manga. And looks like we got a new rival Urara from neighboring island, hopefulyy we gonna she her more.
Pretty light eps we got, I thought we gonna get some drama around Kokoro Mother but thank goodness all of them pretty decent parents. And all set and done their going to Tok- I mean Chiba and Yasumi had experience the pretty same view when doing brainstorming for her first manga. Excited to what gonna happen on Comitia.
I'm a Teshima-in-the-notebook drawer myself. That one blank erasure revealing '100 Things I Want to Draw' wrecked me harder than any giant robot fight could
Yasumi turning a geological rock cut into a giant monster eating cake sent me but then Hikaru's Treant kingdom fantasy had Teshima crying into her handkerchief. This club is unhinged in the best way
I missed seeing the main girls do their usual silly stuff this week but learning why Teshima is so strict definitely made up for it. The assistant grind looks brutal.
Teshima putting on prescription glasses and seeing the world in cross-hatching and screentones was such a cool visual moment
The moment Hebichika handed the draft back and called her a rival gave me absolute chills. That is how you handle a mentor turning away from a student.
Rei putting on those prescription glasses and seeing the world in cross-hatching and perspective lines was so ridiculously real and beautiful
I loved the parts where when Rei was thinking of how she should draw the backgrounds in real life as manga. The way that she would explain her thought process and the her imagination of the background to be in manga was so cool.
