Komekami! Girls

Synopsis
Born from a single grain of rice, seven sisters make up the actual premise of this series. In Japanese folklore, there's a saying that seven gods live inside every grain of rice, and this TV series takes that literally by turning those gods into a group of sisters called the Komekami Girls. Their mother, the Queen of the Rice Gods, gets suddenly yanked back to the celestial realm with no way to return, leaving the girls on their own in Usa City, Oita Prefecture. To find traces of their missing mom, the sisters use a pretty neat trick: they can teleport between Hachiman shrines scattered across Kyushu, and each shrine visit drops them into a new local problem to solve. The vibe here is warm and grounded despite the divine premise. Think less epic mythology, more community-oriented storytelling where the girls learn about regional history, local traditions, and the people living around these shrines. The missing mother thread gives it emotional direction without making things heavy: it's the kind of quiet motivation that keeps you watching between the episodic adventures. If you liked the gentle, shrine-centered world of Inari, Konkon, Koi Iroha or the cozy regional charm of Let's Make a Mug Too, this fits right in that space. There's also a bit of Kamichu energy in how it treats everyday divine life as something relatable rather than grandiose. It's basically a love letter to Kyushu wrapped in a family reunion story.

I still cant believe Inani just turned into sparkles like that because she and Hikari were finally getting somewhere and then their mom shows up with a literal golden paddle to save the day it was so cool seeing the Queen actually fight but now I need to know who was reaching for Okoge at the very end of the credits because it felt like a setup
You really think the show is going to be all happy and then they make Inani disappear into golden dust right when Hikari tries to hug her and the chirashi-zushi recipe afterwards felt so bittersweet
The way the Komekami Queen just smacked that giant eye with a giant rice paddle was so cool and it was funny how she just casually drove the Boma King away with cooking utensils
I am actually crying about Okoge turning into a demon right after Kamanosuke promised to protect her as a big brother because that was so cruel
Seeing that giant eye appear in the sky and paralyze everyone was a huge shift from the fire starting tips at the beginning and the stakes feel way too high now
Watching the rice fields turn yellow while the girls were just trying to cook for the festival was painful and Mephilas is a terrifying villain for a show about rice
That sweet potato mochi recipe looked so tasty and I love how Hikari snapped out of her funk to lead the kitchen
