📖 SYNOPSIS

Fresh from years in France, Mao Mizusawa shows up on her childhood friend Kouichi's doorstep, suitcase in hand, ready to move in while her parents stay overseas. Just like that, the comfortable dynamic between her, Kouichi, and their other friend Kazuki gets thrown off balance. KimiKiss Pure Rouge is a 24-episode TV series about the tangled, overlapping crushes of high school — Kouichi can barely string a sentence together around the quiet Yuumi Hoshino, Kazuki keeps running into the brilliant but distant Eriko Futami, and Mao positions herself as everyone's wingman while clearly dealing with feelings of her own. What makes this one stand out from other visual novel adaptations is that it doesn't reset timelines or cycle through routes. Instead, J.C.Staff threads all the romance arcs into one continuous story with two male leads running in parallel, so no single girl's arc gets shortchanged. The pacing is slow and deliberate — this isn't a show that rushes confessions or manufactures drama. It just lets these kids stumble through the gap between friendship and something more, with a soft art style and a mellow soundtrack that make the whole thing feel like flipping through an old photo album. If you liked the grounded romantic tone of True Tears or wanted something like Amagami SS but without the omnibus format, this hits that same bittersweet spot. It's quiet, earnest, and a little melancholy — exactly the way first love tends to be.
