Kimetsu no Yaiba x MLB
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Imagine Sakonji Urokodaki, Tanjiro's masked mentor from Demon Slayer, sitting in a commentary booth at Tokyo Dome, breaking down Shohei Ohtani's pitching mechanics as if they were Water Breathing techniques. That's the kind of energy this one-episode ONA delivers. Made to celebrate the MLB Tokyo Series in 2025, this ufotable-produced short takes real MLB players — Ohtani, Mookie Betts, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Seiya Suzuki — and filters their athleticism through the lens of Demon Slayer's Breathing Styles. It's weird on paper, but it actually works as a surprisingly heartfelt piece about how skills and passion get passed down through generations, connecting Japanese baseball history to the "inheritance of feelings" theme that runs through Kimetsu no Yaiba. The animation is gorgeous, because of course it is — it's ufotable. The whole thing runs about the length of a single episode, so it's not a commitment. If you liked how Haikyuu!! made volleyball feel like life or death, or how Ace of Diamond captures the weight of Japanese baseball tradition, this hits a similar nerve but from a completely different angle. It's less a story and more a love letter to both franchises, and honestly, watching Urokodaki narrate a baseball game with total seriousness is worth the runtime alone. Fans of Kuroko no Basket's over-the-top sports energy will find something to appreciate here too.
