Kansen 3: Shuto Houkai
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A mysterious virus tore through Japan's Tohoku region four years ago and nearly wiped it off the map. Drastic quarantine measures and a vaccine eventually brought things under control — or so everyone thought. Now Wataru Ayase is living a relatively normal life in Tokyo with his family and friends, the outbreak a distant, uncomfortable memory. Then the virus comes back, and Tokyo stops being a city real fast. What follows is a collapse story — not just of infrastructure and safety, but of the people caught inside it. Wataru's trying to hold things together for the people he cares about while everything around them unravels. The tone leans hard into dread and survival instinct, with the city itself feeling like it's closing in. The character designs are detailed and expressive, which makes the psychological deterioration hit differently than you'd expect from a 2-episode OVA adapted from a visual novel. If you've watched something like Bible Black or Discipline: The Record of a Crusade and appreciated how those used dark, pressurized settings to drive tension, this scratches a similar itch. It's not a slow burn exactly — two episodes don't allow for that — but it wastes no time establishing stakes. Going in knowing it's based on a visual novel helps, since the pacing reflects that origin. Short, dense, and not particularly interested in giving you breathing room.
