Synopsis
As fellow drama club members, Konishi and his girlfriend Sanae have built a relationship that's genuinely sweet, rooted in admiration, shared rehearsals, and all that wholesome stuff. The catch? Weeks turn into months and things haven't moved past the hand-holding stage. Then one day, while they're running lines at his place, Sanae stumbles across some condoms in his room. You'd expect panic, maybe an argument, but instead her expression shifts into something else entirely: anticipation. That's basically the premise of this 2-episode OVA from Studio Shion, adapted from the manga. It's a character-driven setup where the tension isn't about conflict so much as two people figuring out how to close the gap between emotional closeness and physical intimacy. The drama club backdrop gives it a nice framing device, with all the performative energy bleeding into how these two navigate real feelings versus rehearsed ones. If you've watched Girl Next Door or My Girlfriend Is Shobitch and liked how they handle the awkward comedy of couples actually trying to take the next step, this hits a similar note. Akiba Girls fans might also find the tone familiar. It's a short watch, just two episodes, so it doesn't overstay its welcome, and the pacing keeps things moving without rushing past the character moments that make the dynamic work.

The sound design in those intimate parts was seriously intense and it made up for those few static shots scattered throughout the episode
Sanae being so shy when Konishi asked to see her face was the highlight and it made the whole vanilla vibe feel much more authentic
The dialogue during the bedroom scene felt so much like a real couple actually talking for once and it made the whole thing feel way more personal to me
Konishi was definitely panicking for no reason because Sanae looked like she had been waiting for that discovery the whole time they were in his room
The atmosphere changed so fast when they walked into the bedroom, and Sanae dropping the act to look at the condoms was exactly the shift this story needed
Months of them just dating without moving a step finally ended when she saw what he was hiding and that specific look of excitement on her face really showed how much she wanted it
Sanae having that intense look when she found the box really got me because it showed how much she wanted him to do something
The contrast between their hard work at the club and the mess in his room worked and her changing her attitude so fast was the best part
Konishi being so nervous about the discovery made the payoff way better when she didn't actually freak out and it felt like a total 180 from the club scenes
The discovery of the condoms in his room was a total surprise because Sanae didn't even get mad and her face when she realized what they were for made the whole wait worth it
I thought the drama club rehearsal felt so stiff and formal but then they got back to his place and everything finally clicked between them
I was wondering how they were going to fix the relationship being stuck for so long but the way she just happened to find his stash during the rehearsal was perfect. It felt like the tension finally broke and her anticipation was way more interesting than if she had just gotten angry, plus the art for her hair was really nice
That frozen look on Sanae face was kind of creepy but it showed how much she wanted this to happen and the animation on her eyes was actually pretty good
It is kind of a slow start and Sanae finding the condom is basically the only thing that happens for twenty minutes so you might want to just skip to the second episode
You might find the missionary stuff a bit plain if you want something crazy but the way Konishi said he loved her made the whole scene feel a lot more romantic and authentic
The animation was way better than anything Queen Bee puts out even if you can tell they were reusing some frames during the drama club rehearsal parts at the start
I was surprised by how much I enjoyed the vanilla vibes and it felt like a nice change of pace to see two people who actually like each other just being intimate
