Kaiju No. 8: Narumi's Week at Work
Oshimeter
Synopsis
As the strongest captain in the Defense Force, Gen Narumi is the guy everyone looks up to when building-sized monsters are tearing through cities. But what does his week actually look like when he's not in the spotlight? That's what this short series digs into. Set in the Kaiju No. 8 universe, Narumi's Week at Work follows the First Division captain through the mundane and the chaotic — leadership headaches, downtime between deployments, and the kind of personal moments that don't make it into the big battle arcs. It's a side story, but it fills in a character who's easy to admire from a distance and harder to understand up close. The tone bounces between genuine action beats and quieter, almost slice-of-life stretches, which gives Narumi more texture than most shonen side characters ever get. If you liked how Attack on Titan fleshed out its military leaders or how Parasyte: The Maxim balanced monster threats with human introspection, this hits a similar note — just in shorter form. There's also something refreshing about watching a competent adult navigate a world like this, rather than a teenager stumbling through it. Fans of Godzilla: Singular Point's sci-fi worldbuilding will appreciate the setting details here too. It's a small addition to the Kaiju No. 8 world, but it makes the whole thing feel more lived-in.
