Wow, just wow. This movie makes you think about the things you could've done but didn't because you were worried of it's consequences. Then, you realize, the only reason you fear these consequences is because you'll be here to face them. That isn't the case for Sakura however, she takes life in a more unserious way, doing as she pleases since she knows she has such little time. She takes interest in Hakuri as he's the only other person besides Sakura and her mother who are aware of her condition. Yet besides knowing this, he attempts to stay away from her as he prefers to keep to himself. However as time goes on, Sakura breaks Hakuri's shell off, letting us see a glimpse of his true self. Hakuri spends his time ensuring that Sakura enjoys what little time she has left. We see Sakura's failed attempt at starting something between these two friends in the hotel scene when she clearly want's to get closer with Hakuri, yet he refuses knowing that loving her will only bring harm. Sakura desperately wants someone to love her, yet she can't bring herself to try as she knows she'll leave them eventually. The name's behind the main characters are also perfectly fitting. Sakura is a direct translation to cherry blossom, which fits her life as they bloom so beautifully, yet fade and die so quickly. Hakuri means spring tree, which fits him as spring trees usually wait all winter just to support the beautiful cherry blossoms. Also, the spring tree is never fully alive until it has it's cherry blossoms, telling us throughout the story that Hakuri was never fully alive since he never had his cherry blossoms to support, meaning he never tried to do anything for anyone. When Sakura met him, that's when he came out of his inanimate state and truly experienced what it meant to be alive.
