Hyakushou Kizoku 3rd Season Specials
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Growing up on a dairy farm in Hokkaido, Hiromu Arakawa — the mastermind behind Fullmetal Alchemist — eventually made a manga about it. These two special episodes, bundled with the DVD release and manga volume 9, continue the third season's run of autobiographical comedy about what that life actually looked like. Arakawa depicts herself as a stocky, no-nonsense farm kid wrangling livestock, enduring Hokkaido winters, and learning the hard way that cows don't care about your feelings. Her family members round out the cast, each bringing their own brand of rural stubbornness and dry humor to the daily grind of keeping a dairy operation running. The comedy comes from how mundane and absurd farm work can be at the same time — one moment you're shoveling manure, the next you're in a genuine life-or-death struggle with weather or an ornery animal. It's grounded in a way that feels real because it literally is. If you liked Silver Spoon's take on agricultural school life or Barakamon's rural slice-of-life charm, this hits a similar frequency but with the added layer of knowing the person telling these stories went on to create one of the most beloved shonen manga ever. Produced by Pie in the sky, these specials are a short, warm addition for anyone already following the series or just curious about the person behind the Elric brothers.
