Hot Times at Manga Cafe
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Mei's idea of a real date involves dinner, conversation, the kind of outing couples actually go on — what she keeps getting instead is a hotel room and a senpai who's more interested in skipping straight to the physical side of things. When his wallet runs dry and they end up at a manga café instead, Mei sees her chance for something normal. Spoiler: it does not go as planned. What makes this one-episode OVA worth your time is that it actually has a pulse beyond the obvious. Adapted from Mengo Yokoyari's adult manga — yes, the same Yokoyari Mengo who later wrote Oshi no Ko — there's a genuine comedic and emotional undercurrent running through the whole thing. Mei is easy to root for, her frustration is relatable, and the dynamic between wanting romance and settling for something messier gives it more texture than you'd expect from a 17-minute runtime. If you've watched something like Aneki... My Sweet Elder Sister The Animation and wanted just a bit more character personality, this leans in that direction. It's not trying to be a full story — it's a slice of a complicated situationship told with decent animation and some actual charm. Go in knowing what it is, and it delivers.
