Home Guard 2: A Haibara Household Kin
Oshimeter
Synopsis
After something traumatic upends their lives, unemployed Satoshi finds himself living at home with his younger sister Yui, quietly falling apart. To cope — and to feel useful — he takes on a self-appointed role as the household's personal security officer. It's a little absurd, a little sad, and it works as a setup because the real tension isn't coming from outside threats. It's coming from inside the house, specifically from Satoshi's growing awareness that his feelings for Yui have shifted into territory that makes him deeply uncomfortable. The show leans into that psychological unease rather than glossing over it. You get a domestic drama that's genuinely invested in the internal conflict of someone trying to suppress emotions he knows he shouldn't have. The pacing is slow and introspective, more focused on mood and character psychology than plot momentum. If you've seen Yosuga no Sora or Koi Kaze and found yourself drawn to the uncomfortable emotional honesty those shows commit to, this operates in similar territory — taboo feelings explored with some narrative weight rather than treated casually. It also shares a bit of DNA with Kimi ga Nozomu Eien in how it handles repression and emotional fallout in close relationships. It's an 8-episode OVA, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. Just go in knowing it's not trying to resolve its tension neatly — it's more interested in sitting inside the discomfort.
