As I mentioned in my Episode 4 review, the impact of the feats shown here is somewhat diminished because the training leading up to them was skipped. When I first experienced this part of the story in the original source material, I was genuinely surprised by what happened. Although this adaptation has its flaws, it still manages to capture the overall mood and atmosphere of the story, allowing the important moments to retain some of their impact. P.S. That ending scene was definitely one heck of a sucker punch. It was a surprising moment that adds more impact to the episode's conclusion.
