Growlanser IV: Wayfarer of Time
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Across the continent of Noievarl, four nations are tearing each other apart, and Crevanille — a young mercenary just trying to do his job — ends up at the center of something much bigger than a regional war. During a routine mission, an angel shows up. Not the comforting kind. The kind that nearly wiped out all of humanity 2,000 years ago. Now Crevanille has to figure out what these beings actually are and whether history is about to repeat itself on a catastrophic scale. This is a single OVA tied to the PS2 game Growlanser IV, so it works more as a taste of the world than a complete story. The game itself has that Fire Emblem energy — tactical combat, branching choices, dozens of possible endings — and the OVA captures the tone of that without demanding you already know the lore. Satoshi Urushihara's character designs give everything a distinct late-2000s JRPG aesthetic that fans of Armored Dragon Legend Villgust or Slap Up Party: Arad Senki will recognize immediately. It's short, it's action-driven, and it's genuinely more interesting than most promotional tie-ins bother to be. If you're already into the Growlanser series, it's a nice companion piece. If you're not, it's a low-commitment way to see whether the world feels worth diving into before committing to the full game.
