Golgo 13: The Professional
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Missing is simply not in his vocabulary — Golgo 13 is a professional assassin who operates in the shadows of governments, corporations, and criminal organizations, and he's just taken out the son of one of the most powerful men in America. Now that man, a business tycoon named Leonard Dawson, is coming apart at the seams and throwing everything he has — the CIA, the U.S. Army, hired killers — at bringing Golgo 13 down. What follows is a cat-and-mouse thriller where the cat is slowly losing his mind and the mouse never flinches. This 1983 movie from Tokyo Movie Shinsha is a cold, methodical piece of work. Golgo 13 himself barely speaks, barely emotes — he's less a character and more a force of nature. The film leans into that, making his composure feel genuinely unsettling against the chaos surrounding him. It's gritty, morally ambiguous, and doesn't bother softening the edges of the world it's set in. If you're into City Hunter or Black Lagoon, the vibe here is similar — adults in dangerous worlds making hard choices — but Golgo 13 strips it down even further. No comic relief, no warm moments to soften the landing. If Lupin III is the charming side of that coin, this is the other side entirely. It's a tight, no-nonsense thriller that respects your time and doesn't apologize for what it is.
