Synopsis
All Seiichi wants is to pass his exams. He finds a quiet inn away from distractions, figures it's the perfect spot to buckle down and study. The Kazenaha Inn is secluded, peaceful, and run by a lonely widow who turns out to be far more interested in him than in leaving him alone with his textbooks. That's basically where his academic plans fall apart. The mistress has her own idea of how new tenants should spend their time, and it involves a lot less studying and a lot more of her particular brand of hospitality. The two-episode OVA from 2002 leans into the intimate, closed-off atmosphere of the inn to build a slow, charged tension between the two leads — there's a real push-and-pull between Seiichi's sense of responsibility and the obvious pull toward something he wasn't expecting when he packed his bags. The animation holds up reasonably well for its era, and the character expressions are more detailed than you'd expect from a short release. If you've watched something like Shusaku or Bible Black and liked the isolated-setting, slow-burn setup that those go for, this scratches a similar itch. It's not trying to be complicated — it's a short, focused piece that does exactly what it sets out to do without overstaying its welcome. Two episodes, one inn, one very persuasive landlady.
