The Kingdom of Ei's Maiden Court, a breeding ground for the empress and imperial consorts, is the setting for this tale of envy and transformation. Reirin Kou, a paragon of virtue and elegance, is the ideal candidate, though plagued by a weak constitution. Keigetsu Shu, a boorish and envious consort-in-training, resents Reirin's perfection. During a comet sighting, Keigetsu attempts to murder Reirin, but the attempt fails. Instead, she casts a spell to swap bodies with her rival. Imprisoned and awaiting execution, Keigetsu finds herself trapped in Reirin's frail body, while Reirin experiences newfound physical freedom. Now inhabiting Keigetsu's body, Reirin is determined to live, embracing her newfound strength and the opportunity to experience life outside the confines of her previous, sickly existence.
