Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Complete is an extended version of the original film, featuring new scenes exploring Geostigma, character origins, and an expanded battle.

📖 SYNOPSIS

After saving the world, Cloud Strife kind of broke. Now he's running a motorcycle delivery service, dodging phone calls from his old friends, and slowly dying from a mysterious plague called Geostigma that's spreading through the population. He lives with Tifa and two kids in a city built next to the ruins of Midgar, and he's doing a terrible job of pretending everything's fine. Then three silver-haired strangers show up, start kidnapping sick children, and keep talking about finding their 'Mother' — and if you played the game, that word should make your stomach drop.

This OVA is the definitive version of Advent Children, and the 'Complete' cut earns that name. The CGI animation from Square Enix Visual Works honestly still looks remarkable — they added blood, battle damage, and extended scenes that give the whole thing a grittier, more visceral edge. The action choreography is absurd in the best way: gravity-defying swordfights, high-speed motorcycle combat, and Cloud's modular sword doing things that shouldn't be physically possible. Nobuo Uematsu's soundtrack ties it all together, especially when 'One-Winged Angel' hits with full rock-opera intensity.

The emotional core is really about grief and whether Cloud can stop punishing himself long enough to protect the people who still need him. If you liked the melancholy spectacle of Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy XV or the weight behind the fights in Fate/stay night: Heaven's Feel, this hits a similar nerve. Fans of NieR:Automata Ver1.1a's blend of existential sadness and stunning action will feel right at home too.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You've played Final Fantasy VII and want to see Cloud's story continue two years later
Square Enix Visual Works' CGI action choreography is exactly your kind of spectacle
The remixed FFVII soundtrack hits hard — you want that nostalgic score in a new context
You're here for nonstop sword fights and motorcycle chases — not deep dialogue scenes

❌ SKIP IF...

You've never played the original game — this film assumes you know everything already
You want a standalone story with proper character introductions and self-contained arcs
Supporting cast like Barret and Red XIII barely get screen time — that'll frustrate you
