Fabulous Beasts 5th Season

Once upon a time, legendary beasts were a big deal — feared, worshipped, the whole thing. Now they're broke and confused, trying to figure out how rent works. That's the setup for Fabulous Beasts, and by its 5th season, this ONA has built a surprisingly deep roster of oddball characters you genuinely care about. Sibuxiang, a legendary beast, gets sent to help other mythological beings survive in the modern human world. His old colleague Pixiu can't stop hemorrhaging money, Tuye the rabbit spirit is having the worst luck streak imaginable, and the Jue brothers — former deities — are adjusting to life without divine perks. It's all played for laughs, but the show sneaks in these quiet moments about identity and belonging that actually land. Each episode runs about six minutes, so you can blow through a whole season in under an hour. The animation from studio Fenz is genuinely sharp for a short-form series, and the way it pulls from Chinese mythology — mixing famous figures with really obscure creatures — gives it a flavor you don't get elsewhere. If you liked the mythological workplace comedy of Hoozuki no Reitetsu, or the gentle spirit-of-the-week charm of Natsume's Book of Friends, this scratches a similar itch. There's a bit of Noragami's "gods down on their luck" energy too, just leaning harder into comedy. Twelve episodes, no huge time commitment, and a good time throughout.
