Beneath a criminal past, Gozu Toshiaki carries a genuine love for the villain of his favorite RPG — not despite the demon king Evelogia being universally hated, but because he sees something underneath all that darkness: a deeply lonely creature no one ever chose to understand. Then Gozu gets shot by a yakuza and wakes up inside the game itself, assigned as an assassin with one job: kill Evelogia. He does not do that. Instead of following the script, Gozu defects entirely and decides to protect the demon king he's spent years rooting for from the sidelines. That choice unravels the game's original story and puts the two of them on entirely new ground together. The 9-episode ONA format keeps things tight, and the fantasy world — magic, mythical creatures, the whole setup — gives the relationship room to develop with actual stakes rather than just atmosphere. The tone blends adventure with romance and gets explicitly adult, so go in knowing that.
