Eroge! Sex and Gamedev
Oshimeter
Synopsis
When it comes to erotic games, few people alive are as devoted as Tomoya Mochizuki — he just can't write, draw, or code to save his life. That doesn't stop him from landing a job at Flower, a tiny all-female game studio desperately trying to avoid going under after their first release bombed hard. His role is website admin, but what the team actually needs is someone who understands what makes eroge work. Turns out, passionate enthusiasm counts for something when nobody else in the room has ever actually played the genre they're trying to make. The setup is genuinely funny — a guy whose entire qualification is being a devoted fan walks into a professional environment and becomes the unlikely expert. The four women on the team each bring a different dynamic: the director who looks younger than she is, the quiet artist, the energetic programmer, and the no-nonsense writer. Watching them try to understand eroge through Tomoya's very hands-on guidance is where the show lives. This is a 6-episode OVA from 2011, so it's short and doesn't overstay its welcome. If you've seen Shirobako and liked the behind-the-scenes industry angle, or if Saekano's game development premise interested you, there's some overlap in spirit here — though the content is firmly adult. Go in knowing what it is, and it delivers exactly that with a decent amount of charm alongside it.
