A global atomic war nearly wiped out the human race — but what they rebuilt isn't exactly paradise. El Miles is a law enforcer in a city that exists purely to keep the human race going — a grim job with grimmer colleagues. While the rest of her unit handles suspected members of a criminal faction called the Black Widows in ways that make you uncomfortable, El gets assigned something different: protecting a young pop singer who very openly wants nothing to do with being protected and everything to do with getting under El's skin. The two-episode OVA from Arms keeps the setting lean and the atmosphere thick, mixing post-apocalyptic tension with a psychological undercurrent that quietly asks whether any of what El is experiencing is even real. The production leans into muted, futuristic aesthetics that give it a distinct look for its era. If you've watched something like Elfen Lied or Mirai Nikki and appreciated how they layer darker, more explicit content underneath a genre framework, El operates in similar territory. It's not subtle about what it is — this is a hentai OVA with sci-fi window dressing — but the existential thread running through El's story gives it more texture than you might expect from two episodes. Go in knowing the tone, and you'll find something genuinely strange and atmospheric buried in there.
