Elfen Laid

Introduced as their kingdom falls around them, two elven princesses sit at the heart of this story. That's where 'Daishikkin Helena' begins, and it does not get lighter from there. Theodora and Helena are royalty in Burgundia, an elven nation that gets swallowed up by the invading forces of Melven — an army with a brutal reputation for how they treat captured women. Both sisters end up in enemy hands, and Theodora, the stronger of the two, has to make a hard call about what she's willing to endure to keep Helena alive. The 2005 OVA runs two episodes and wastes no time setting up a dark, uncomfortable premise rooted in war, captivity, and sacrifice. The elven character designs give it a distinct look that sets it apart visually, even if the subject matter is heavy. If you've seen Kuroinu: Kedakaki Seijo wa Hakudaku ni Somaru and you're familiar with that particular corner of dark fantasy hentai, this fits comfortably alongside it. Fans of Shin Ringetsu who appreciated a more story-driven framing around difficult content will find something similar here. The tone leans into the dramatic weight of the setup rather than glossing over it, which gives Theodora's choices a bit more emotional grounding than you'd expect from a two-episode OVA. Go in knowing what you're signing up for — this is a dark one.
