Ecchies
Oshimeter
Synopsis
A high school girl who feels too inexperienced for her crush decides to ask her parents if she can watch them be intimate together. That's the setup for the first episode of Ecchies, a two-episode OVA from 1997, and it sets the tone for exactly the kind of awkward, boundary-pushing territory this series lives in. The two episodes are standalone stories. The first follows Yumiri, who develops feelings for her classmate Nakata and goes to some genuinely uncomfortable lengths to feel more prepared. The second shifts to a university student named Natori who starts dating a high school girl he meets one night — but she only ever agrees to see him after dark, and when he tries to change that, her secret comes out. Both stories sit somewhere between romance and drama, less focused on explicit content for its own sake and more interested in the weird emotional logic people use when navigating relationships and insecurity. It's not deep, but it's not brainless either. If you've watched Futari Ecchi or Yosuga no Sora and liked how those handled intimate themes with some actual character context, this scratches a similar itch. Fans of Kiss x Sis who want something with a bit more narrative grounding might also find it worthwhile. It's a short watch — two episodes from AIC, one of the more reliable studios of that era — and both stories wrap up cleanly without overstaying their welcome.
