Detective Conan Movie 27
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Everyone knows the Phantom Thief Kid only steals jewels — so he throws everyone off when he announces he's going to steal a Japanese sword from a wealthy family in Hakodate, Hokkaido. That little detail is what pulls Conan Edogawa and his rival-slash-friend Heiji Hattori into a case that gets complicated fast. The sword belonged to Toshizo Hijikata, a real historical figure who made his last stand in Hakodate, and before anyone can figure out what Kid actually wants, the family's lawyer turns up dead in the warehouse district, apparently killed with a Japanese sword. So now you've got a heist, a murder, historical intrigue, and two of the sharpest teenage detectives in anime trying to untangle all of it at once. This 2024 movie does a great job using Hakodate as more than just a backdrop — the city's history and landmarks are woven into the mystery itself. The dynamic between Conan and Heiji carries a lot of the film, with their friendly competition pushing the investigation forward in satisfying ways. If you're into the rival detective energy of Kindaichi Case Files or the gentleman thief cat-and-mouse games from Lupin III, this hits a similar nerve. Fans of Detective School Q's layered puzzles will probably appreciate how the plot threads connect too. You don't need deep Conan lore to follow along, though longtime fans will get more out of certain character moments. It's a tight, atmospheric mystery movie that earns its runtime.
