Synopsis

At a glamorous subway opening ceremony in Tokyo, someone tries to assassinate the governor, and Conan — tiny body, adult brain, you know the deal — saves everyone and then starts digging into why anyone would target this politician in the first place. Turns out the governor has a messy history involving a dam project that wiped an entire village off the map in Niigata Prefecture. So Conan drags the whole crew — Ran, Kogorou, the Detective Boys, Professor Agasa — out to this remote snowy mountain town to figure out who's holding a grudge and how far they're willing to go. The setting is what makes this one stand out from the usual Conan movie formula. Instead of cityscapes and skyscrapers, you get this quiet, snow-covered village with buried secrets and political corruption layered underneath. The mystery ties personal loss to larger systemic decisions, which gives it more emotional weight than you might expect from a shounen detective movie. The pacing keeps things tense without dragging, and B'z on the ending theme doesn't hurt either. If you enjoyed Detective Conan Movie 14: The Lost Ship in the Sky or Movie 16: The Eleventh Striker, this fits right alongside those — same mix of adventure, comedy, and genuine mystery. It's a solid standalone watch even if you're not deep into the Conan franchise, though longtime fans will appreciate the character dynamics more. A good winter evening movie, honestly.
