Dengeki Daisy

After losing her older brother, Teru Kurebayashi finds that her only real connection to the world is a stranger named Daisy, someone she texts through a phone her brother left her, who always seems to know exactly what to say. She's never met him, has no idea who he is, but he's somehow become her emotional anchor. Then she breaks a school window and gets roped into working for Kurosaki, the school janitor who is gruff, sarcastic, and genuinely kind of infuriating, except for the moments when he's inexplicably not. The mystery of who Daisy really is sits under everything, giving the romance a layer of quiet tension that keeps you engaged beyond just the will-they-won't-they stuff. The comedy lands too, mostly from the push-and-pull between Teru and Kurosaki, and Teru herself is worth sticking around for: she's not waiting to be rescued, she's just figuring things out. If you liked Kaichou wa Maid-sama for its bickering leads with real emotional depth underneath, or Ao Haru Ride for the way it handles grief and connection without being heavy-handed, this fits that same space. It's based on a shoujo manga and comes from Studio Deen, so the aesthetic is exactly what you'd expect: warm, a little nostalgic.
