Sealed underground for two centuries, Astaroth, once powerful enough to drag the world into war before a band of heroes finally put him down, is back, and word spreads fast. Adventurers start flooding into his labyrinth, chasing fame and the bragging rights that come with slaying a legend. What they don't account for is that Astaroth has had two hundred years underground to think about what comes next. This 2-episode OVA is adapted from a dark fantasy visual novel, and it carries that DNA throughout, the labyrinth setting feels genuinely layered, full of traps and power dynamics that make every encounter feel loaded. Characters like Miska and Oboro aren't just window dressing; they're caught up in something that has real weight to it. The tone leans dark and deliberately paced rather than action-spectacle, so if you go in expecting that, it lands better. It's a hentai title, so that's the context going in: but if you've enjoyed the demon lord premise done with actual world-building in things like How Not to Summon a Demon Lord or Demon King Daimao, and you want something that commits harder to the darker end of that fantasy, this scratches a specific itch. Don't expect a full arc in two episodes; think of it more as a tone piece that establishes a world worth sitting in for a while.

hell_butterfly_hunter★★★★☆EP 1most of these adventurers are just fodder for his traps and it makes the whole dungeon setup feel actually dangerous
futakuchi_onna★★☆☆☆EP 1The pacing felt a bit slow at the start, but I think the atmosphere of the underground tomb worked well for a short ova
almighty_yhwach★★★★☆EP 1seeing the demon lord wake up in that dusty labyrinth and immediately start plotting was a good way to start this off
mogma★★★★☆EP 1the way he tricked those arrogant heroes after being sealed for two hundred years was pretty cold and the character designs for the girls are quite distinctive
kuda_gitsune★★★★☆EP 1Astaroth just waiting for those adventurers to walk into his trap was a great way to show he is back and the art style for a 2014 ova is actually pretty decent
gisell_ghoul_485★★★★☆EP 1The way the story sets up the trap in the labyrinth was definitely the highlight, especially because you can see the arrogance of the adventurers as they walk right into their doom and Astaroth proved he is a smart enemy who knows exactly how to exploit people who are only looking for fame and easy gold and it makes the underground setting feel much more dangerous
michiru_kaioh_370★★☆☆☆EP 1The designs for the monsters in the cave were a bit generic and they really needed more personality to make the initial descent feel like a real threat
aqua_archpriest★★★★☆EP 1My focus was entirely on how they handled the transition from the ancient heroes to the modern day loot hunters because it shows just how much the world forgot about the danger
ein★★★☆☆EP 1Watching the labyrinth traps actually work was great and the way Astaroth just lurks in the shadows while everyone falls for his tricks makes the tension feel real
ashiaraiyashiki★★★★☆EP 1Astaroth is such a beast for setting up those traps and it was cool seeing the confidence of the adventurers drain away the moment they realized they were totally outclassed
iris★★★☆☆EP 1The concept of the seal breaking because of the crust shifting was an interesting change from the usual dark ritual trope and it gave the world a more grounded feel
ittan_momen★☆☆☆☆EP 1That opening backstory about the war and the heroes felt really rushed and it made the whole 200 year time skip feel like it did not matter at all
yukio_yukimura_490★★★☆☆EP 1I was staring at the screen in total shock when Astaroth flipped the script on those adventurers and it was so satisfying to see the Maou actually being smart about his traps
simkray★★☆☆☆EP 1The animation for the dungeon layout was pretty decent and the way they showed the heroes from the past compared to the new guys coming in was a cool touch
kaepora_gaebora_269★★★★☆EP 1I really connected with the way those adventurers looked before they went into the labyrinth, and watching Astaroth manipulate the environment to catch them made their total defeat feel earned
nopperabo_ninja★★★☆☆EP 1I have a soft spot for these older fantasy titles and this one does not disappoint with the underground labyrinth vibes, the way the heroes think they are so powerful only to get lured into the darkness by Astaroth is a classic setup and I am mostly here for the art which is really detailed for a 2014 release
fierce_deity_271★★★★☆EP 1The animation on that first trap scene was actually surprisingly smooth and the way the swordswoman realized her mistake too late made for a really grim ending to the part
ghetsis_325★★★☆☆EP 1I actually really like the dark fantasy vibe they went for with the labyrinth and it makes a nice change from the usual generic settings you see in these shows, and seeing Astaroth manipulate the adventurers into his traps felt really calculated, especially since they were so overconfident about killing a literal demon king just for some fame and gold
majora★★★★☆EP 1Astaroth looks way more intimidating than you would expect for a guy who has been stuck underground for two centuries and he clearly has zero mercy for those girls
umizato_unicorn★★☆☆☆EP 1Those adventurers had no idea what they were walking into and the trap at the end of the corridor was brutal to watch
