📖 SYNOPSIS
Violence isn't just part of Yang Jian's resume — it is the entire resume, as he eliminates threats to the three realms with zero hesitation and even less mercy. So naturally, the universe decides the one thing he needs to learn is empathy. When the world's spiritual energy starts running dry, Yang Jian gets booted from heaven and dumped into the human realm, stripped of most of his power. The catch? He can only earn his way back by connecting with the very monsters he used to destroy, using genuine emotion instead of brute force. For a guy whose only skill set is hitting things really hard, that's a problem.
To make things weirder, his old celestial companion — the legendary Howling Celestial Hound — has been reincarnated as a young girl named Wang Xiaoxiao. Their dynamic carries the weight of a shared past but plays out in this odd mentor-student setup where neither of them fully has the upper hand. It grounds the story in something personal even when the action gets chaotic.
The animation from Kid+Kid Animation Studio leans into traditional Chinese art aesthetics blended with modern techniques, and it looks genuinely distinct. If you enjoyed the mythological reimagining in New Gods: Yang Jian or the character-driven journey in Jiang Ziya, this ONA hits a similar space but stretches the format into something more episodic. It's action-packed but quietly about a violent god learning there are things you can't punch your way through.
