Synopsis

A suspiciously cheap hot spring resort catches Hiroshi Nohara's eye, and he books it for the family's summer vacation — which should be the first red flag. Turns out the place is actually a hidden sanctuary for Japanese Youkai — kappa, tengu, rokurokubi, the whole lineup. And instead of running for their lives, the Nohara family just kind of... deals with it the way they deal with everything: poorly, loudly, and with Shin-chan making it ten times worse for everyone involved. The 34th Crayon Shin-chan movie leans hard into yokai mythology, but filters it through the franchise's signature chaos where five-year-old Shinnosuke treats ancient spirits the same way he treats literally every adult — with zero respect and maximum butt jokes. The premise is a clever pun too: 'Bake-shon' mashes together obake (monster) and vacation, and the movie plays that concept straight. It's a family stuck in a supernatural world where the biggest threat might not be the rogue ancient spirit trying to seal the barrier between realms forever, but Shin-chan himself. If you've enjoyed the yokai worldbuilding in GeGeGe no Kitarou or the creature comedy of Yo-kai Watch but want something with more irreverent family humor, this fits that space well. It also has that same cozy adventure energy as the Doraemon movies, just filtered through the most chaotic family in anime. Shin-Ei Animation handles the production, keeping the colorful, goofy look the franchise is known for.
