Chii is still kidnapped, and Hideki is at his wit's end trying to find her. Ueda, Chii's boss, accompanies him as he searches the neighborhood to see if anyone knows anything. After a brief conversation with Shinbo, who tries to remind Hideki that Persocoms aren't people, Ueda offers a different perspective. Ueda and his Persocom had a tragic history, one that feels relatable because it's so similar to a terrible human affliction. Now, what's his connection to Yumi, and why doesn't she want anything to do with him? This chapter raises the question of whether it's right or wrong to fall in love with a machine, and why someone would develop feelings for a device that simulates a human being.
