Synopsis

At 30 years old, Kiyoshi Adachi has never been in a relationship or even kissed anyone — the kind of guy who blends so completely into the background at work that life seems to forget he's there. As a reward for this achievement, the universe gives him the power to read minds through touch. Sounds useful, right? Except the first thing he discovers is that his handsome, popular coworker Kurosawa has a massive crush on him. Now every accidental brush of hands in the office becomes an onslaught of Kurosawa's earnest, sometimes embarrassingly romantic inner monologue, and Adachi has no idea what to do with any of it. This 12-episode TV series from Satelight takes a silly supernatural premise and uses it as a lens for something genuinely sweet — watching a guy with zero self-confidence slowly realize that maybe he's worth caring about, all while trying not to combust every time Kurosawa thinks something tender in his direction. The comedy lands because Adachi's internal panic is so relatable, and Kurosawa's sincerity cuts through what could easily be just a gag show. If you liked the gentle workplace warmth of Atarashii Joushi wa Dotennen or the slow-burn emotional honesty of Given, this hits a similar spot but with a more comedic angle. The mind-reading gimmick keeps things fresh and gives the show a way to explore vulnerability without forcing heavy drama. It's cozy, it's funny, and the leads have real chemistry. Worth your time if you want something light with actual heart underneath.

"Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!" was... an experience, that's for sure! I selected this due to the funny title and watched the dubbed version. I never thought I’d find myself watching an anime with a title in that specific format, but within the first few episodes, the silliness of the premise kept pulling me back in. It initially gave off a bit of an "Incel x Chad" vibe, and while I haven't watched a lot of BL, I really appreciated how the show handled sexuality. Or rather, how it didn't. There was no "ick" factor or obsessive questioning; it felt nice to see a story where the characters, who were presumably interested in women, simply went on this journey because they liked each other's personalities. I surprisingly enjoyed the "possessive" tropes here. Usually, I find jealousy overdone in romance, but seeing a man whom everyone perceives as the "perfect" ladies' man getting flustered and possessive over his quiet male crush had me locked in. Visually, the animation is standard for the genre. I’ll always have a soft spot for an anime that keeps silly chibis ready to use on the fly. However, the pacing starts to wear you down as the character arcs peak. The story relies heavily on the "miscommunication" trope, and the characters don't seem to learn from their previous mistakes. By the end, it feels as if the writers were struggling to stretch the conflict out just to fill the final couple of episodes. The introduction of the side couple wasn't bad, necessarily- I actually enjoyed them at first. Since the manga is ongoing, it makes sense to expand the cast, but the anime seemed to rush their conclusion just to get them out of the way while not even having a lot for the main couple to do in the meantime. While I liked the dynamic between the older, "uhm, actually" author and the younger, punkish dancer, the dub threw me for a loop with a random line comparing their bond to an adoptive father. Like, was that in the original? It felt like a jump that was never addressed, but the two of them had some compounding energy that just dropped at one point. Overall, "Cherry Magic!" has fun moments and a silly premise, but it progressively gets blander as it moves toward the finish line.
