Synopsis

Meet Ryou, a 32-year-old erotic manga artist who can barely function around women. Ami is a 28-year-old fujoshi who's pretty much written off real men entirely. These two socially stunted adults accidentally cross paths, and what follows is one of the more honest romantic comedies about people who are deeply, awkwardly inexperienced with actual human connection. This movie doesn't sugarcoat the messiness of being an adult who hasn't figured out dating. Ryou's world revolves around drawing explicit content but he freezes up in any real romantic situation. Ami is so immersed in boys' love fiction that flesh-and-blood guys just don't measure up. There's something genuinely funny and a little painful about watching two people whose entire lives orbit around romanticized fiction try to stumble through an actual relationship. What makes this one stand out is the visual approach — it blends traditional animation with rotoscoping and live-action elements, giving everything a grounded, almost documentary-like texture that fits the adult tone. It's not trying to be flashy; it's trying to feel real. If you liked the premise of Cherry Magic with its older characters confronting inexperience, or the blunt awkwardness of B Gata H Kei, this hits a similar nerve but from a more mature angle. It's a single movie, so the commitment is low. Worth your time if you want a romance that actually acknowledges how weird and uncomfortable love can be when you're a grown adult starting from zero.
