Synopsis

On the surface, Tetsu comes across as any other reserved high school kid, but he keeps a secret: he telepathically controls a giant white blob creature named Cenco that can shapeshift into just about anything. In a city where these mysterious amorphous beings have started popping up and freaking everyone out, Tetsu's been flying under the radar — until his classmate Yuki stumbles onto Cenco and refuses to leave the situation alone. Cencoroll 3 continues this strange little saga where creature battles break out across a Sapporo-like cityscape, and the whole thing has this understated cool factor that's hard to pin down. The entire franchise is essentially a passion project from one animator, Atsuya Uki, who handles most of the production himself, which gives it a visual identity you won't find anywhere else — clean, slightly surreal, with creature designs that feel organic and unsettling at the same time. The soundtrack by Ryo of Supercell adds this atmospheric layer that ties everything together without being overbearing. The dynamic between Tetsu and Yuki keeps things grounded; he's withdrawn, she's nosy, and it works. If you liked the weird creature energy of Mutafukaz or the offbeat action of Dead Leaves, this sits in a similar space — indie-flavored sci-fi that doesn't feel the need to over-explain itself. Fans of Scissor Seven's blend of casual tone and sharp action sequences might vibe with this too. It's a movie, so the commitment is low, but the payoff is a genuinely distinct experience.
