This 12-episode TV series is the ninth season of the Vanguard D Series, and it wastes zero time getting into the thick of it. The early episodes set up Akina questioning why he even plays — not in some melodramatic way, but in the quiet way competitive people sometimes wonder if their obsession is worth the cost. Then the cards hit the table and the strategy kicks in, and you remember why he can't walk away. If you grew up on Yu-Gi-Oh! or Duel Masters and miss that feeling of watching someone pull off an impossible combo at the last second, this scratches that itch with sharper animation and tighter pacing.
