Cafe Junkie

With graduation around the corner, no job lined up, and no real plan, technical college guy Masaru finds his one reliable comfort in hanging out at Hidamari, a cozy neighborhood café run by his childhood friends Nanami and Kurumi. It's low-key, warm, familiar. Then he casually mentions he's excited to see another childhood friend who's coming back to town, and something shifts. Nanami and Kurumi start treating him very differently than they ever have before. What was once easy and comfortable gets charged with something new. That's the setup for this two-episode OVA, and it leans fully into the tension that builds when people who've known each other forever suddenly start seeing each other in a different light. The café setting keeps things intimate — there's nowhere to hide, and the small space makes every interaction feel loaded. If you've watched Milk Junkies and liked the childhood friend dynamic, this hits similar notes. Fans of Mrs. Junkie will also recognize the slow-burn shift from comfortable familiarity to something more complicated. It's short, it's contained, and it doesn't overstay its welcome. Based on a visual novel, it keeps that branching-paths energy where different relationships feel distinct rather than interchangeable. For a two-episode runtime, it does a decent job making you care about who ends up where. Don't go in expecting deep storytelling — go in knowing exactly what it is, and it delivers.
