Overrun by demons, the world has been left with only one thing standing between women and a gruesome fate — the Crimson Lotus, a squad of female fighters who've made it their mission to hunt these creatures down. When one of their own is killed, the group shifts from defense to offense, pushing into the underworld to root out the problem at its source. That's the core setup of Guren, a 3-episode OVA from 2001 based on a visual novel, sitting firmly in the dark fantasy hentai space. Each member of the Crimson Lotus brings her own abilities to the fight, and the anime gives them just enough room to feel distinct rather than interchangeable. The tone is grim and relentless — the world here doesn't soften anything. The soundtrack leans into the tension rather than undercutting it, which helps the darker moments land with some actual weight. If you've already worked through La Blue Girl or Demon Beast Invasion and want something with a similar demon-hunting energy, this scratches that same itch. It has a bit more of a squad-based dynamic than either of those, which gives it a slightly different feel. Bible Black fans might also find the darker aesthetic familiar.
