Black Cat
📖 SYNOPSIS
Black Cat is a Japanese anime series adapted from the manga of the same name by Kentaro Yabuki, originally serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump from July 2000 to June 2004. The anime, produced by Studio Gonzo and directed by Shin Itagaki, premiered in Japan on October 6, 2005, on Animax and Tokyo Broadcasting System (TBS), airing 24 episodes until March 30, 2006. Licensed in North America by Funimation Entertainment, it was broadcast on the Funimation Channel with an English dub. The story follows Train Heartnet, a former elite assassin known as the "Black Cat" and Number XIII of the Chronos Numbers, a secret organization controlling one-third of the world’s economy. After meeting Saya Minatsuki, a cheerful bounty hunter, Train abandons his cold-blooded ways, leaving Chronos to become a "Sweeper" (bounty hunter). Joined by his partner Sven Vollfied, a chivalrous Sweeper, and Eve, a human bio-weapon created via nanotechnology, Train navigates a world of action, crime, and revenge. His past catches up as Creed Diskenth, a former ally obsessed with Train, leads the Apostles of the Star to enact a dangerous plan, forcing Train to confront his history and protect his new life. The anime adapts the manga’s 20 volumes for its first 20 episodes, with the final four introducing an original arc involving a traitorous Chronos Number’s apocalyptic scheme. Black Cat blends fast-paced action, comedy, and drama, with themes of redemption and the value of human life, set against a backdrop of a fictional universe with supernatural and technological elements.
