Backwasher! Her and I, in the Women's Bath!?
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Working as a back-washer at his family's public bathhouse sounds mundane enough for Souta Tsukishima — until his classmate Aoi, the girl who has been making his school life miserable, shows up in disguise, clearly hoping nobody recognizes her. He doesn't clock her at first. She doesn't clock him. And then the back-washing begins. That's the setup, and it commits to the awkwardness fully. What follows across its 8 short episodes is a comedic romance built on hidden identities, unspoken feelings, and the very specific tension of someone recognizing a person they definitely should not be recognizing in that situation. The traditional bathhouse setting gives it a distinctly Japanese flavor that keeps it from feeling generic, and the short episode format means it moves quickly without a lot of padding. If you've watched things like Skirt no Naka wa Kedamono Deshita or Netsuzou TRap and appreciated the compact, romantic tension format, this covers similar ground with more comedic energy. It's based on a manga and produced by Magic Bus in 2019 as an ONA. The tone is light and leans into the absurdity of the premise rather than taking itself seriously, which is really the only way a story like this could work. Go in knowing what it is, and it delivers exactly that.
