📖 SYNOPSIS

After spending years fighting in the wastelands of a post-apocalyptic Earth, Deunan Knute knows basically nothing but war. Then she gets pulled out of the battlefield and dropped into Olympus, a city that's supposed to be humanity's last shot at utopia. The catch? Half the population is made up of Bioroids — genetically engineered humans who can't reproduce and have their emotions dialed way down to keep everything stable. Deunan reunites with her old partner Briareos, except he's now a full-on cyborg after nearly dying in combat, which makes their relationship... complicated. And the deeper she gets into Olympus, the more she realizes this so-called paradise has some serious cracks underneath — political tensions between humans and Bioroids, factions with their own agendas, and questions about whether engineering peace out of people is even peace at all. If you're into Ghost in the Shell or Bubblegum Crisis, this lives in that same neighborhood of cyberpunk philosophy mixed with military action. The animation was genuinely ahead of its time for 2004 — cel-shaded 3D that still holds up surprisingly well, kind of like a manga come to life. The soundtrack leans hard into electronic and techno with names like Paul Oakenfold and Basement Jaxx, which fits the whole vibe perfectly. It's a single movie, so it's a quick watch, and it packs a lot of world-building and moral complexity into that runtime without dragging.

✨ MUST WATCH IF...

You dig early-2000s CG animation — Digital Frontier's 2D/3D hybrid still looks unique today
Action-heavy sci-fi movies are your thing — mecha fights and gunplay dominate the runtime
You're into Masamune Shirow's cyberpunk world-building alongside Ghost in the Shell
A single 100-minute movie fits your schedule better than a full series commitment

❌ SKIP IF...

You want original sci-fi storytelling — the plot borrows heavily from familiar cyberpunk tropes
Heavy exposition dumps instead of natural dialogue will wear you down fast
You need emotionally rich characters — the CG style limits subtle facial expression and depth
