zelda★★★★☆EP 2I really liked the contrast between the sweet romance, and the darker supernatural elements involving the bathroom ghost
Two high school students, Takahashi and Oohara, are completely in love with each other and completely clueless about the other's feelings. Then Takahashi dies before either of them can say a word. That's the setup for this 2-episode OVA from 2008, and it leans hard into that emotional gut-punch before the supernatural elements kick in and things get... complicated. Oohara is left carrying feelings she never got to express, and the story doesn't let her grieve quietly. Strange things start happening around her that blur the line between the world she knows and something she can't quite explain. The tone is youthful and earnest: there's a genuine emotional core here about love that never got its moment, which will feel familiar if you've spent time with Anohana or Angel Beats. It's rougher around the edges than those, being a short OVA adaptation of a manga rather than a full series, but it covers similar emotional territory in a condensed package. Fair warning: the hentai tag means this isn't a clean watch, so go in knowing what you're getting. If you can look past that and you're drawn to bittersweet supernatural romance where death isn't quite the end of the story, and you want something short enough to finish in one sitting, this scratches a similar itch to Your Name without the theatrical polish.
zelda★★★★☆EP 2I really liked the contrast between the sweet romance, and the darker supernatural elements involving the bathroom ghost
megumin_mage_148★★★★☆EP 2Witnessing the ghost boy protect Oohara from those creatures in the stall was a lot more intense than the first part of the series
brock★★★★☆EP 2I was really focused on how Takahashi would talk to her while dead and then the supernatural chaos took over the whole episode
tyme_366★★☆☆☆EP 2Having two versions of Hanako-san was a twist and the way the tentacles came into play during the school bathroom scene was definitely unexpected
grusha★★★★☆EP 2Takahashi being a ghost and trying to connect with Oohara is actually kind of sad but then the Hanako-san stuff happens and things get weird fast
deku_285★★★★☆EP 2That reveal about how Takahashi died before he could tell her his feelings is so brutal and the supernatural stuff makes the tragedy feel even more permanent
wiseman_381★★☆☆☆EP 2The way the bittersweet ending mirrors shows like Anohana was unexpected, and the focus on their unrequited love made the tentacle scenes feel like a fever dream
rukongai_ronin★★★★☆EP 2That was such a bizarre experience because it starts off with all the typical supernatural stuff and tentacles and then suddenly it turns into this massive tearjerker about regret and dead lovers and seeing how it ends for Takahashi was genuinely tragic even if it is a bit rough around the edges compared to newer shows
mew★★★★☆EP 2I think my heart actually broke when they realized they were both in love too late and that ghost girl twist really added to the dark atmosphere
n★★★★☆EP 2Seeing Takahashi try to express his feelings from beyond the grave is just heartbreaking and the two Hanako sans plot point was a strange but effective twist
anouki★★★★☆EP 2That final goodbye between them felt like something out of a much sadder drama and the supernatural elements gave the romance a really unique edge
rangiku_rider★★★☆☆EP 2That scene where they finally understand each other was way more emotional than it had any right to be for an old ova and the supernatural drama is surprisingly heavy
kaguya_sama_161★★★★☆EP 2I really didn't expect to feel this much, but seeing Oohara try to reach him while he's a ghost destroyed me and the tentacles were such a weird contrast
karakasa_kozo★★☆☆☆EP 2The way the story wraps up their romance is super bittersweet and it makes the earlier explicit stuff feel almost out of place because the writing is actually decent
sailor_moon★★★★☆EP 2I am actually crying because that ending with Takahashi and Oohara was so sad and the ghost stuff really hurts even with the weird tentacle scenes in between
gorman_brothers★★★★☆EP 2It is wild how a show with this many tentacles can still make you feel so much for Takahashi and his unsaid feelings before he died
keukegen_king★★★☆☆EP 2The tentacle stuff was definitely a lot but it actually tied into the ghostly theme better than you would expect for a show from 2008
hop_355★★★☆☆EP 2Seeing Oohara finally realize Takahashi loved her all along was the most painful thing, especially with those tentacles making everything so chaotic and dark
goh★★★★☆EP 2That reveal with the two Hanako figures was actually pretty creepy and it made the whole supernatural aspect feel much more heavy than the first part
animemaster99★★★★☆EP 2That tentacle monster part in the school bathroom was way more graphic than I expected but the resolution between the leads was nice
