Synopsis
Dragging herself to a mixer despite barely being able to hold a conversation with strangers, let alone men, shy college student Shizuka Kominami expects nothing, yet ends up befriending Ryou Kirishima, a strikingly beautiful and self-assured woman who seems to have her life completely together. They click almost immediately, and after the event winds down, Ryou invites Shizuka back to her apartment for drinks and conversation. Then Ryou kisses her. Then things get complicated. Because Ryou is not a woman. That's the setup for this 12-episode ONA from Magic Bus, adapted from a manga, with episodes running about five minutes each. It moves fast. The crossdressing revelation hits early, and from there the show leans into the emotional messiness of what follows, Shizuka processing what she feels, what she thought she understood, and what she actually wants. It doesn't treat Ryou's identity as a punchline or a twist to be resolved neatly. If you've watched Himegoto or Love Stage!! and wanted something with more heat and fewer comedy beats, this scratches that itch. It's closer in tone to Maria†Holic in terms of the initial deception, but the drama here is played genuinely rather than for laughs. Fair warning: it's categorized as hentai, so go in with accurate expectations. If you're comfortable with that territory and curious about a short-form story that takes gender identity and attraction seriously, it's worth the time commitment: which, honestly, is less than two hours total.
