I think that the series was trying to build a solid plot, even adding a supposedly rivalry conflict, but resulted in poor story progression as the series went by. The plot points were totally predictable and that disturbing scene was a desperate move to have an impact at least. The frame-by-frame animation in the zooming Romeo & Juliet's play was poorly executed.
