📖 SYNOPSIS
In the quiet town of Shiromitsugawa — the kind of place where the biggest event on the calendar is an anime convention to boost local tourism — blunt, dependable, and quietly bored high schooler Kakeru Niimi is just going through the motions. That changes when an earthquake hits mid-convention, leading Kakeru to a shrine where a sacred relic shatters right in front of him. Suddenly, people around him start developing supernatural abilities — his classmate Miyako, his sister Sora, and a mysterious girl named Noa among them. Now Kakeru's stuck trying to figure out why this happened, what the relic actually was, and how all of it connects to the strange incidents cropping up around town. This TV special, told from the perspective of the character Sophitia, serves as both a recap and a fresh entry point into the 9: Ruler's Crown story, with newly recorded music and some announcements woven in. The vibe sits somewhere between the slow-burn mystery of Steins;Gate and the school-kids-with-powers setup of Charlotte, but with a visual novel pacing that lets the romance and character dynamics breathe. If you liked Rewrite's blend of supernatural intrigue and relationship drama in a small-town setting, this hits a similar note. It's atmospheric and youthful without rushing past the quiet moments that make you actually care about these characters before things get complicated. Produced by Studio PRA, adapted from the visual novel, and worth the single-episode commitment to see if the world clicks for you.
