8-shaku 8-wa Kerakumeguri: Igyou Kaikitan The Animation
Oshimeter
Synopsis
One afternoon, a boy crossing paths with a woman discovers she's not quite a woman at all — she's impossibly tall, pale, and wrong in a way he can't articulate. He runs home, and when he describes what he saw, his grandparents go quiet. They know exactly what she is. That setup alone is genuinely unsettling, and it's the backbone of this three-episode OVA from 2016, adapted from Jyoka's manga. The story gets told in layers — a hitchhiker recounting the tale to a stranger, folding the horror inside a frame narrative that keeps you slightly off-balance about who's safe and who isn't. The entity at the center, Hachishaku-sama, draws from Japanese folklore in a way that feels grounded rather than generic. She doesn't need jump scares. Her presence is the scare. Now, fair warning: this is a hentai OVA produced by Studio Seven, so the supernatural tension shares space with explicit content. If you went into something like Bible Black or Shoujo Sect knowing what you were signing up for and appreciated that they still bothered to build atmosphere, this scratches a similar itch. It's not trying to be high art, but it's also not completely brainless — the folklore wrapper gives it more texture than most titles in this space bother with. Three episodes, one strange woman, and a story that gets under your skin a little more than you'd expect.
