Mazenchu
Oshimeter
Synopsis
Sume is a girl made of vinegared rice who enrolls at Mazenchu High School with one dream: to become delicious sushi someday. The problem is she's a little sour, a little earnest, and completely unprepared for a classmate like Abo, a competitive avocado who spends her first day convinced Sume is a spy. That's the setup for Mazenchu, a 2026 slice-of-life series from Studio Nanahoshi where the students are food ingredients living out their youth, and the drama is less about battles than about learning to mix with people whose flavors don't match yours. The episodes run about a minute each, which sounds like a gimmick until you watch one and realize it's a complete little story. By episode two, Abo is fishing for hints about what cool, sensitive tuna student Akami looks for in someone, and his answer (a little sour) lands right as Sume walks in. Shinko, Sume's gentle childhood friend, rounds out the cast. The tone is bright and sincere, with food puns doing double duty as relationship metaphors. If you liked Pui Pui Molcar's tiny-episode charm, or Bananya's cute premise with actual jokes, this has that same low-commitment warmth. Polar Bear Cafe fans will recognize the gentle hangout energy, just with sushi ingredients instead of zoo animals.
