Luo Xiaohei Zhanji: Xueqian Pian

Xiaohei is a young black cat spirit who just wants to go to school with his human friend Luo Xiaobai. That's a simple wish, except he's spent his life as a supernatural cat, so summer vacation becomes a crash course in pinyin, reading, and all the ordinary human habits school expects. In this six-episode ONA from HMCH, Xiaobai, Shanxin, and their friends help him practice before the new term, and most of the comedy comes from a spirit trying to sit still, follow routines, and act less like a cat. The 2026 series follows the Gate of All Beings arc and keeps things warm and low-stakes, with hand-drawn 2D animation that makes small expressions and physical comedy feel lively. If you liked Natsume's Book of Friends for its gentle human-and-spirit world, or Hakumei and Mikochi for cozy everyday rhythms, this fits that mood. Barakamon is another good comparison: less about big action, more about a kid-like character learning to live alongside people. It is a soft, playful comedy, not a battle-heavy season.
